Teardrops Are Filling Our Oceans
I have been holding the shape and form of this image of a teardrop in my mind for months, and I finally created the black pen artwork on December 11 — a couple of days before the horrific Brown University shootings; before the traumatic gun killings in Bondi Beach, Australia; before the stabbing of Rob and Michelle Reiner by their son, and before our president’s utterance of vicious comments following their deaths. The tears have been flowing as the sorrows multiply.
This artwork is the latest in my series addressing the reality of how creating art — be it music, performance, writing, painting, etc. - can be one of the tools that help bring to the surface deep emotional responses to tragedies and trauma.
In sorrow, and in hope for all of our futures,
Mary Lou
