Pandemic Paintings
What land are we in? What is going on? Panic, concern, despair, worry, and other such words described the shocking beginning of the COVID pandemic lockdown in the United States in March 2020. Just the doing of ordinary activities seem suspended. I/we began to live in an altered environment. We were stuck and stifled. We were forced to remain in homes, vehicles, RV’s, apartments, hospitals, and in many unfortunate situations, pushed into homelessness.
Creating artwork became my therapy and kept me sane during this time. I turned a small sunroom into an art studio and started painting, and painting and painting more than I had ever done before. I also plunged into the world of online classes with one in particular having the deepest impact. Janice Mason Steeves, an artist residing in Canada, taught a series of workshops in “wild places” (namely, whatever your close environment was for the time being). She urged participants in the class to be with nature – either in the home or especially outside — and then transferring those quiet moments into non-objective artwork. I have to admit this focus I found quite challenging and yet it opened up new visionary pathways for me.
Here in this section you will find just a few of the many pieces I created. There are no stories attached to the individual works.
